How does it all work?
In addition to a registration fee of £895 per team, a participation fee of £1,500 per team is used to purchase a brand new vehicle (Auto Rickshaw in India), which will be waiting for you at the start line. You use this vehicle for the duration of the expedition and it is then auctioned off once you reach the finishing line. All of the proceeds from the sale of the vehicles is donated to charity.
Therefore, the better the condition the Auto Rickshaw is in when you complete the trip, the more money it will raise for Charity.
Each adventure supports two separate charities, with all profits from the sale of the vehicles being divided equally. The Rickshaw Romp 2010 is in aid of the Dame Vera Lynn Trust - www.dvltrust.org.uk in England and Khushii - www.khushii.org in India.
Event registration is usually nine months prior to the commencement of the adventure. The minimum sponsorship (enough to cover the cost of purchasing the vehicle) is due four months prior to the start of the trip.
Our ideal participant will be armed with a yearning for adventure, a need for excitement, a desire to improve the lives of others, and most importantly, a sense of humour. We aim to compliment these with excellent locations, low-tech equipment, a knowledgeable crew and some great parties. The experience will leave you with a feeling of having achieved more in a few weeks, than most people achieve in a lifetime and certainly something to tell the Grandchildren.
Not that we simply link achievement with rough living, indeed the most discerning adventurers appreciate the benefits of luxurious hotels, a hot bath and great food from time to time. The vehicles we've selected for the task, lack state of the art technology, performance and reliability.
