Tell Me More…
Part of the challenge and appeal of these types of adventures is the vehicles chosen for the event. There are many tour companies operating within our chosen destinations, usually running guided tours for families and middle-aged foreigners in Toyota Land Cruisers and other such worthy vehicles. Therefore, we’ve deliberately selected vehicles with an element of comedy appeal, little or no comfort and which are generally unsuitable for the task.
The purpose of forming Charity Explorers was to create an organisation that facilitates peoples desire for adventure, along with their desire to make life a little better for others. Many of us in the West, live in an over sanitised world. A world where health & safety officers and risk assessment managers would cut the crusts off our toast if they thought they could get away with it. A world where the biggest risk many people take in their lives, is eating too much fast food. Our objective is to join the fight back, to put some risk back into our lives: To make life a bit more “pointy” and worth living… not suffering.
However others do suffer: Some because of circumstances beyond their control, and accidents of birth, others, such as members of our Armed Forces, who might face a life of pain and difficulty, because they opted to serve their county. Fulfilling an all too rare sense of duty, that can end in the loss of life, limbs and long-term psychological damage.
The best way we can help these causes, is to raise money for them. The best way we can achieve this, is to create a wide network of fundraisers. The best way we can enlist a network of fundraisers, is to organise a series of challenging “once in a lifetime” adventures, which will capture the imagination of both participants and sponsors.
Our initial phase of operations is organising Rally’s across the Indian sub-continent. However our Five Year objective is to expand the services to incorporate countries and regions such as Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Central and South America.
By one means or another, we all want to do our bit to make the world a slightly better place. Some have caught the green bug and have adopted the mantras of “save the world” or “stop global warming” with a religious zeal reminiscent of the Spanish Inquisition. Our goals are somewhat less lofty, but infinitely more achievable.
We are not, and have no intention of ever becoming a tour company or travel agent. These are self-guided, self paced adventures for intrepid explorers, who can find their own way from A to B without being tucked in at night, and read a bedtime story.
So, the more memories of floods, plagues of locusts, being chased by Elephants and wrestling Tigers the better.
However, as we are providing the vehicles with the objective of selling them after the event, and then passing all the proceeds to charity, the vehicles must all be in the same condition at the start line. This is why we purchase the auto rickshaws new from the factory and deliver them to the start line.
For a small additional fee, Rallyists also have the option to customize their vehicles prior to the start of the adventure.
So, with the belief that our cause is just, there is no reason why we can’t all “do our bit” and have a bucket load of fun at the same time. In fact the more fun we have, the more money we’ll raise for our worthy beneficiaries. How so? Well, the more people join our explorations, the higher the profile of the organisation, which means we’ll raise more money. The more challenging, interesting and enjoyable the adventures are, the more people will join us.
